Dorothy Tran

Mon-Fri 9AM - 2PM

Dorothy Tran is a San Diego girl to the fullest! Born and raised in San Diego to Vietnamese immigrant parents, she spent her weekends with family all over town. From City Heights to Mira Mesa to Southeast San Diego- she knows this city like the back of her hand!

Dorothy’s four sisters were a big influence on who she grew up to be, she credits them with her love of radio and music.

“I was that little kid who sat by the stereo all day waiting for her favorite song to come on just so she could record it and play it on repeat all day long. It drove my parents crazy! My Catholic dad used to always say to me, ‘If you knew all your prayers as well as you knew those songs…’” Dorothy said.

In college, a friend convinced Dorothy to get a summer internship at a San Diego radio station. She fell in love with radio, working her way up from intern to on-air personality at several different radio stations.

Dorothy went on to co-host The AJ Show for 6 years, and eventually to host middays at KYXY 96.5.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be on such a legendary station! I grew up listening to this station and am so excited to be a part of a San Diego staple,” Dorothy said.

When Dorothy isn’t on the radio, you can find her planning her upcoming wedding, boxing/kickboxing, hiking, and spending time with her six nieces and nephews.

Keep up with all of her adventures on her social media @dorothyonair.
