How do you pick the songs for your playlist?

It probably wasn't with computer science, but researchers at the Columbia Business School and the French business school INSEAD did just that!

According to a study published in the American Sociological Review, digital technology developed by students at MIT, called Echonest, was used to look at musical attributes of Billboard number-one songs going back 1958.

The intent wasn't to make a list of top dance songs, but to find a way to use techonology to pick future hits.
