Dorothy's Baby Blog: 11 Days to Go!

Here's an update on how everything is going....

It’s getting closer and closer until my baby boy is here! Steven and I have 11 days to go until we become a family of 3!! I still can’t believe it. LOL.  It won’t be just the two of us anymore, and while I’m enjoying the time together, I’m anxious for our baby boy to arrive.

People have been asking if I’m over being pregnant, and truthfully the answer is “no.” I’ve been very fortunate to have an easy pregnancy. I did, however, wake up this morning with some lower back pain, and I read that that’s a sign of my body getting ready for labor!

I’m 37 weeks and 5 days pregnant so I’m at the stage where I see the doctor once a week. So how’s baby boy doing? Well, I’m 1 cm dilated and he’s a stubborn one… he’s still in the breech position! Baby Bac is transverse so his head is right underneath my right rib cage, his back is along the left side, and his butt is pointed down with his legs crossed. He doesn’t seem to want to move, or hasn’t been successful with trying to move despite the exercises I’ve been doing to encourage it. Oh, and he’s pretty big, too. I had a growth ultrasound a week ago, and he was 7 lbs and 15 oz give or take a pound. Babies are supposed to gain half a pound to a pound in weight every week in the last few weeks so this boy is gonna be big!

Because he’s so big already and not in the birthing position, my doctor said I would have a higher chance of having to have an emergency C-section if I were to go into labor. We have a scheduled a C-section on the books for August 5th at Sharp Mary Birch in case he doesn’t move in time.

I was definitely a little bummed when I first heard that, but after talking to some friends who’ve had a C-section I felt a lot better. Plus, I really trust my doctor at Sharp Rees-Stealy. Dr. Delcore has been amazing throughout my whole pregnancy. I’ve never had surgery, so I am a little nervous about that and about the recovery, but I know once my baby arrives it’ll all be worth it. I just want to do what’s best for him and for me.

So are we ready?! I think Steven and I are as ready as we can be. The baby’s nursery is ready to go, the car seat is in. I have to do one more load of baby laundry, and I think that’s it. We took a couple of classes at Sharp to help us prepare for the baby, like the breastfeeding class.

Sharp Healthcare offers a bunch of classes for expecting mothers and I heard that the breastfeeding class is a really good one to take. I know a lot about taking care of babies, but know nothing about breastfeeding, so Steven and I took the class last night.

I’m SO HAPPY that we did! Our instructor’s name was Kika and she gave us so much info, like the different positions on how to hold the baby to help with latching, hunger cues to look out for, how to express milk from your breast to help the baby, and different things to try if the baby is having trouble breastfeeding. I want to be able to breastfeed for as long as I can, so all of the tips and info we got last night was as a major help. I highly recommend taking this class with your partner because they’ll also learn some great techniques on how to help mom and baby.

So that’s the latest so far… oh, I am going to do a maternity shoot this evening. Super late, I know, but I’ll have pics next week to share with you! Thanks for following my pregnancy journey!
