Get to Know Dorothy Tran!

January 31, 2018
I'm a San Diego girl to the fullest! Born and raised in San Diego to Vietnamese immigrant parents, I spent my weekends with family all over town. From City Heights to Mira Mesa to Southeast San Diego- I know this city like the back of my hand! My four sisters were a big influence on who I was growing up, and thanks to them I got my love for radio and music. I was that little kid who sat by the stereo all day waiting for her favorite song to come on just so she could record it and play it on repeat all day long. It drove my parents crazy! My Catholic dad used to always say to me, "If you knew all your prayers as well as you knew those songs..." In college a friend convinced me to get a summer internship at one of the radio stations here in San Diego. I had no idea how much I would fall in love with radio. I worked my way up from being an intern to an on-air personality at several radio stations in town which led me to The AJ Show, where I served as the co-host for 6 years. The road brought me to  KYXY 96.5, and I couldn't be more excited to be on such a legendary station! I grew up listening to this station and am so excited to be apart of a San Diego staple. When I'm not on the radio you can find me planning my upcoming wedding, boxing/kickboxing, hiking, and spending time with my six nieces and nephews. I love going to local events, and on any given Friday/Saturday night you'll probably find my fiancée and I enjoying the local nightlife in University Heights/Normal Heights. Keep up with all my adventures on my social media @dorothyonair.
