Lilac Fire Status, School Closures, Road and Freeway Closures and More!

San Diego is under a red flag warning until 6pm Sunday! The Lilac Fire began shortly after 11am on Thursday off the 15 freeway scorching thousands of acres in Fallbrook and Bonsall is heading toward the more populated community of Oceanside and Camp Pendleton.

As of 9:20 p.m., new mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for:

  • South of N. River Road
  • North of Oceanside Boulevard
  • West of Melrose & N. Santa Fe
  • East of Old Grove Rd. & Douglas Drive
  • South of Camp Pendleton Eastern Fence Line
  • North of N. River Road
  • West of Wilshire Road
  • East of Douglas Drive
  • South of N. River Road
  • North of Bobier Drive
  • East of Melrose & N. Santa Fe
  • West of E. Vista Way
  • South of Reche Road
  • North of Burma Road
  • Areas east of Douglas Drive to Fallbrook and Oceanside City limits
  • Areas north of North River Road to Camp Pendleton
  • Areas east of College

State Route 76 is closed in both directions at North Santa Fe and Melrose eastward. Eastbound traffic on North River Road at Leon is closed.

 

SCHOOL CLOSURES

The San Diego County Office of Education, California State University San Marcos, and Palomar College announced school closures for Friday due to the Lilac Fire and safety-related power outages.

The following schools will be closed Friday:

  • Children's Paradise Preschool - 145 N. Melrose Dr. Ste 100, Vista, CA 92083

  • Children's Paradise Preschool - 2017-A Mission Ave., Oceanside, CA 92058
  • Classical Academy and Classical Academy High School
  • Coastal Academy
  • Epiphany Prep: Escondido Campus
  • Escondido Charter High School
  • Fallbrook Union Elementary School District
  • Fallbrook Union High School District
  • Guajome Park Academy
  • Heritage K-8 Charter School
  • High Tech High School, Middle School and Elementary School
  • Julian Union Elementary School District

Each school district will monitor the emergency situation and make school closure decisions as needed.

Palomar College canceled all classes and events for Thursday night and Friday.

California State University San Marcos also shut down its campus and events through Friday at its San Marcos and Temecula campuses.

 

ROAD AND FREEWAY CLOSURES

  • Gopher Canyon Road is closed from East Vista Way to Little Gopher Canyon Road
  • Old River Road at Little Gopher Canyon Road through Golf Club Drive
  • Camino Del Rey is closed at State Route 76 to Old Highway 395
  • Old Highway 395 closed from SR_76 to West Lilac Road
  • West Lilac Road from Old Highway 395 to Camino Del Rey
  • SR-76, from Old Highway 395 to Via Monserate (CHP estimates closure through Friday morning)
  • South Mission Road is closed at Winterhaven Road to southbound traffic all the way to SR-76
  • SB-15 to Old Highway 395 off-ramp is closed
  • Camino Del Rey at the Old Highway 395
  • Camino Del Rey at West Lilac
  • Camino Del Rey East of SR-76
  • SR-76 is closed between I-15 and East Vista Way

San Diego Police have closed Kearny Villa Road between Balboa Avenue and Aero Drive through Saturday night so the area can be used as a staging site for San Diego Fire Rescue.

In addition, as of 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, the Escondido Police are urging drivers to avoid driving east of Citrus Avenue and the Valley Center Grade for the next several hours due to heavy traffic.
