The Rock Church Domestic Violence Ministry H.E.A.L.I.N.G. (Honoring, Empowering, and Loving Individuals Needing Guidance) put together the Costume Craze 5K and Kids Fun Walk last Saturday, at Liberty Station Park, in San Diego’s Point Loma area. The Crossing had the honor of helping out with this worthwhile event.
I was on hand to broadcast The Crossing and announce the race and the entertainment, but that was a very small part of this event.
There were vendors set up providing food, free massages, a jumpy for the kids. Then there was the entertainment – mimes (Mime Ministry), aloha dancers (Island Praise), comedians (Comedy Ministry) and Christian rappers (ChristLike, Fillin the Gap and more). It was a great first-year event because of all of the volunteers that put it together.
Here’s one of many statistics about domestic violence – if there are two women walking down the street, once of them has been a victim of domestic violence, or has a family members affected by domestic violence.
The goal of this event was not just about numbers – it was to show up strong for families in crisis and let them know that they are not alone and that there is real HOPE in Jesus Christ.
The Rock Domestic Violence Ministry is vigilant in keeping resources available to these families. Proceeds will be used for housing, legal assistance, counseling, food and other
emergencies that come up. You can find out more about the Domestic Violence Ministry HERE.
