There might be a possibility that the Chargers are coming right back to San Diego! According to longtime NFL reporter Don Banks, “the NFL never wanted to lose San Diego as a market and could force Chargers owner Dean Spanos to take the team back.”
According to Banks, who talked to a local San Diego sports radio station, “Dean Spanos has always been a league team player and was basically waiting for relocation for a long time but was outmaneuvered from the owners of the Raiders and Rams last year, so the NFL felt sympathetic to him and allowed him to move the team to LA.”
“However, there are people in the league, including the commissioner who actually want an NFL team back in San Diego”, Banks said. Banks thinks there are already some in the league office talking about moving the Chargers back to their home of almost 60 years.
Banks also mentions, “I think there’s already a level of concern at how far south it’s gone, that there are at least people talking about it. I don’t think a true tipping point has been reached, it’s too early for that. But I think there’s enough concern that people are saying, ‘What’s the best option perhaps among bad options?'”
