Did you hear that sound? It’s the sound of our hearts skipping a beat. As if the prospect of a Lucille Ball biopic wasn’t enough to make us swoon, we learned earlier today that Cate Blanchett is conifrmed to star in it. Yay!
The rights to the biopic have been acquired by Amazon. The script was penned by Oscar Winner Aaron Sorkin (A Few Good Men) and both of the Arnaz kids, Lucie and Desi Jr., have signed on as producers for the project.
Blanchett told Entertainment Weekly that she has been in talks with Lucy and Desi Arnez’s daughter, Lucie about the movie for some time.
“It’s incredible,” she said, “I mean, you want to talk about astonishing women who have made a lasting impact? You walk onto a film set and you’ve got the female bathrooms called ‘Lucy’ and the male bathrooms called ‘Desi.’ She was the first female studio head, for goodness sake, and a mother, and she broke all the rules and changed comedy and was this incredible actress.”
We can’t wait to see one of the most Boss women in Hollywood History brought to life by one of our favorite contemporary actors!
And while we can’t speak for Lucy, we think she would approve.
