Michael Phelps Is Going To Race a Great White Shark?

When Discovery Channel released their Shark Week lineup Wednesday, they announced that viewers would be treated to something extra meaty this year – A race between Olympic Gold swimmer Michael Phelps and a great white shark.

“Phelps Vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White” will air Sunday, July 23 at 9:10 ET/PT

The network is touting the event as “so monumental no one has ever attempted it before.” We should think not!

Almost no details are disclosed in the announcement, other than that it will be a race. How will they race? Are they going to drop Phelps, a national treasure, into a steel cage to swim alongside this fearsome predator?

While we thrill at the thought, it will probably be something more tame, like Phelps swimming for speed in a controlled tank or something?

However they plan on achieving this, we have to say. We’ve taken the bait – hook, line and sinker! We will be watching!
