Sherry’s Blog: Remembering Prince

One year ago today, we lost Prince.  It’s still hard to believe that he is gone, but thankfully his music is still with us, and we should be getting new stuff soon.

I got to “meet” Prince, way back in the day, when he stopped using the name Prince. It was in Phoenix. I don’t have any pictures of it because this was before phones became cameras, but I remember the experience like it was just yesterday.

He was doing a concert in the area and my boss at the time got all of the air staff back stage.

We were standing on the side of the stage, before the concert, and he walks towards us… I started to get nervous and started to just stare. Yes, I stared, and I’m not ashamed of it – IT”S PRINCE!!!

Then he walked up and  said, “Hey guys, thanks for the support.” Then, he shook my hand and walked away. Just six words and a hand shake – That will always be a wonderful memory.

I have had the pleasure of seeing him in concert twice, and had the wonderful pleasure of growing up with his music.

Though we don’t know him, his music touched our lives in ways he will never know.

I made sure, even before he died, that my twin girls knew about Prince and my daughter Alexis wrote me this note when she found out:

One of my favorite quotes form him:

“Real music lovers are actually my favorite kind of people because they like to know, rather than just be told what to think.”

Here is a look back on how cities remembered him last year after his passing.  Click here:
