The latest news in Hollywood’s endeavor to reimagine Scarface comes in the form of Terence Winter.

The writer has The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire credits under his belt, as well as real life connections to organized crime, so it makes sense that he would be tapped to add his talent to the new Scarface screenplay. Winter is also the pen behind the new Andy Warhol biopic in the works (starring Jared Leto), HBO’s Vinyl, and The Wolf of Wall Street, which earned him an Oscar nod.

Don’t expect the revamped Scarface to mirror the original. Director Antoine Fuqua’s version will be set in Los Angeles and follow a Mexican immigrant on his journey to riches and ultimate ruin.

This will be the third adaptation of Scarface. The first featured actor Paul Muni as Tony Montana, the second was Al Pacino’s creation. There is a rumor that Leonardo DiCaprio will tackle the role for this third incarnation. We can’t confirm it, but DiCaprio did star in Winter’s project, Wolf of Wall Street.

We’ll pass that hurdle when we come to it.
