Have you ever been to the ballet? The feats of strength performed there are insane. The dancers, graceful and seemingly delicate, have streamlined Hulk-like muscles straining beneath their tights and tutus, which is why we would never want to fight with them. EVER. Unfortunately for Kendall Jenner, she’s in their cross-hairs.
Kendall, who portrayed a ballet dancer (why? This makes no sense.) for a recent Vogue España shoot is catching a hailstorm of social-media-trolling from the ballerinas of the world.
While it is not unusual for models to adopt characters on assignment, the personal nature of the Kendall/Vogue España video, which features Kendall’s voice over a video of her playing at a childhood ballet fantasy? is rubbing dancers the wrong way.
“I had to grow up pretty fast, I love being a kid — to run around like a child just not caring,” says Jenner in the video, “I’ve always been adventurous, so I love doing stuff like that — I don’t know, just stupid stuff. I love walking around; being able to be free.”
The dance world responded with a flurry of snarky tweets. Dance Spirit blogger Margaret Fuhrer called the video “confusing” and “facepalm-y.”
“This could easily have been a lovely video: Just put Jenner — who is a truly gifted model– in some gorgeous ballet-inspired fashion, and then surround her with top-level dancers. Everybody wins!” said Fuhrer, who claims, along with others, that the video is disrespectful to those who have spent their lives training in the art of ballet.
Even Dance Mom Abby Lee weighed in.
The video does look pretty goofy, but to be fair, we’re pretty sure Kendall Jenner didn’t realize what she was putting her pointy toe into when she signed up for this gig. She’s a model and she does what she’s paid to do. Besides, aren’t there bigger things to sweat about? Like the break up of Brangelina?
