Did you watch the White House tribute to Paul McCartney on KPBS last night? I thought many of the performers were, well, how do I put this kindly? Horrible? Elvis Costello and Jack White made me cringe. But in all fairness, it has to be scary to stand before the great McCartney and try to reinterpret one of his songs. For me, the finest performance was done by Emmy Lou Harris. At the end of her song Paul just sat there and went, “WOW”.
She’s one of the contestants. It’s all part of the fun at the Del Mar Racetrack. This Friday, Del Mar’s longest stakes race – the mile and one-half Cougar II Handicap – takes places honoring its namesake Hall of Fame runner. Finalists for Miss Cougar Del Mar will also be in attendance throughout the day, hoping to earn the title in the 2nd annual Miss Cougar Del Mar contest. Determined by on-site tweets and texts, the winner of Miss Cougar Del Mar 2010 will be announced during the races that day and invited to present the trophy for the Cougar II Handicap. Miss Cougar 2010 finalists will be presented after the third race at approximately 5 p.m., Miss Cougar 2010 will be crowned after the 7th race at approximately 6:30 p.m. If you want to vote, click HERE.

I think she’d be a hoot. I’d watch! Jessica Simpson joins the growing list of rumored potential candidates to fill Simon Cowell’s shoes on American Idol. GossipCop.com reports that the singer has met with American Idol producers about becoming a judge. She’s spoken with executives about the gig, and according to her rep, “she likes them and they like her.” Insiders say “they are not at the negotiating stage yet.” Other names that have been tossed around lately include Justin Timberlake and Elton John, but those rumors have since been put to rest.
